Oct. 7

Today was very efficient and we got out test back. I was very surprise by the outcome of my test result. I didn't expect much from it but I did received a lot. So, today we did the following, and I made notes so if anyone want's to overview for the test next week, feel free.

Narrative – An account of an incident or a series of incidents that make up a complete and significant action.
Narrative patterns:
1. Situation,
2. Conflict,
3. Struggle,
4. Outcome,
5. Meaning
Verb Tense: Present, Past
Point of View – shows the writer’s relationship to the material and the subject, and it usually does not change within a passage.
First: “I”
Third: “he, she, him, her, it they, them”
Dialogue: Characterizes, particularizes, and supports ideas.
Description: The use of words to represent the appearance or nature of something.
Types of Description:
1. Objective Description (Define)
2. Subjective Description(Define)
Techniques of descriptive writing:
+ Emphasize a single point (dominant impression)
+ Choose your words with care.
+ Establish a perspective from which to describe (point of view)
+ Position the details for coherence (order)
In Scott’s descriptive passage:
a. Simile
b. Metaphor
c. Personification
Order
Chronological (time); spatial (space)

Exercise 1:
Situation: Smelly and dirty dog needs to be cleaned
Conflict: Obtaining (catching) hyper, smelly, and dirty dog to put into a tub to clean
Struggle: When cleaning the Dog
1. Dog was finally put into the tub, fidgeting, while scratching owner and barking loudly
2. Dog kept moving around in the tub so it was difficult to actually scrub all the smelly and dirty materials off the dog
3. Dog escaped during cleaning procedure by jumping out of the tub, while having soap sods on her but obtained again
Outcome: Messy surrounding as well as owner, and not so clean dog
Meaning: Dog didn’t get as clean as the owner wants her to be due to the dog not being compliant
