Americanization

This blog is a response to the last discussion we had on Thursday August 28, 2008, The Struggle to Be an All- American by Elizabeth Wong.

I share the same feelings toward with being an All American and I'm Filipino. I can probably name 10 presidents of the United States than name 2 of the President of the Republic of the Philippines. Although I can understand and maybe speak Tagalog, English was my first language. In my traditional Filipino household, eating "Rice" in every meal is important. We all know that rice and bread/burger buns are botrh carbs. My family would criticize me if I were to eat a burger as a meal, they'd call it a "snack". Filipino women are known for being conservative women who can, cook and always stay home and care for the family. I am the complete opposite. I would rather be out working and providing for the the family in that way. I want to socialize and experience being out in the word.

What's wrong in wanting to be an All American? For me, it would actually be more of a struggle to be an All-Filipino.
